A Cruise Pattern Emerges

This third month of Caronia's first Round the World Cruise saw her visiting ports all around the Mediterranean Sea. This would begin to set a pattern for Mediterranean Cruises to be run in their own right, especially as very few future Great World Cruises would take in this part of the itinerary.

Instead of coming North through Suez, the Caronia would continue heading eastward and begin regular annual visits to the Far East. The pattern to emerge being that the Great World Cruise would immediately be followed by a Spring cruise to the Mediterranean, culminating with an arrival not at New York, but at Southampton, after an absence from the UK of over 6 months.

The 1951 Virtual World Cruise

One of the very first special features added to the Timeline was the Virtual World Cruise of 1951, where the day-to-day information has been recorded on dedicated pages. They carry much greater detail about shore arrangements, potted histories and interesting period photographs.

Some of that information would normally be recorded on this page, but instead only Link images, like the one above, will take you to the relevant day page. This Virtual Cruise will enable you to make comparisons between then and now. Don't miss out!
