General Information for Passengers
Having boarded the ship, one of the first things that you will be issued with is a passenger list. Along with listing the Officers, the Cruise Staff and of course, the other passengers, this list also contains some important introductory information which forms the basis of this page.
Ports of Call
Passengers are advised to acquaint themselves with departure times and tender schedules before leaving the ship. To facilitate departure of the ship from local ports, all passengers must report their return on board to their Bedroom Steward.
Cruise Office
Information on Shore programme Arrangements
The cruise office is located on Main Deck (aft). The Cruise Staff will be at the service of passengers in this office from 9:30am to 11:30 am and from 2:30pm to 4:30pm each day. The office will also be opened in the evening as may be necessary and passengers will be advised during the cruise. The office will be closed while the ship is in port.

Complete information regarding plans for shore excursions will be furnished in advance of arrival at the respective ports of landing, by individual bulletins to each passenger. It is urgently requested that all passengers watch the bulletin boards for the latest announcements regarding shore excursions, etc.

Checks / Cheques
Passengers are advised that the Purser cannot accept personal checks.
Foreign Exchange and Currencies
Most countries visited during the cruise have regulations governing the import and export of their currency. Information concerning these regulations will be advised prior to arrival at respective ports. A foreign exchange bureau will be operated aboard the Caronia for the convenience of passengers by The American Express Company, who will have an experienced cashier travelling with the ship.
Wherever local regulations permit, currencies for use at the next port will be sold during the voyage and before arrival at the port where the currency will be required. This will greatly facilitate the disembarkation of passengers and avoid delays in the departure of shore excursions.
Valuables
In their own interests passengers are advised not to leave articles of jewellery and other valuables lying about. A Safe Deposit is installed adjacent to the Purser's Office for the convenience of passengers possessing valuables, which are not required for immediate use. Passengers desiring to avail themselves of this facility should make request to the Purser, who will supply a key. The Company can accept no liability as to the contents placed in a compartment of the Safe Deposit, and passengers are advised to cover themselves by insurance.
Passengers are asked to exercise care to avoid mislaying the key handed to them, and to return the key to the Purser on completion of the voyage.
Passengers’ Mail
Telegrams and postal matter are received aboard, and while every effort is made to distribute mail promptly, no responsibility is accepted for non-delivery, mis-delivery or delay. Mail received for passengers addressed in care of incoming ships is distributed immediately on arrival, and when leaving the ship at New York, passengers are requested to inquire for mail at the mail desk on the pier.
Medical Officers
Morning and evening consultation times will be posted on notice boards throughout the ship. The consulting room of the Principal Medical Officer is situated on the starboard side forward of the Main deck square. That of the Surgeon is located in Ship's Hospital. The medical officers are authorised to make customary charges for their services, subject to approval of the Master.

Full particulars of rates and information dealing with the various classes of traffic will be furnished on application at the Radio office on the Promenade deck. This service may not be available when the ship is in a cruise port.
Laundry
Limited laundry facilities on board the ship are available to passengers. Prices may be obtained from the Bedroom Steward. In cases where laundry is accepted at any of the ports of call, the Company acts only as agents for whatever laundry may be involved and can accept no responsibility for damage, etc.

A complete valeting service is available to passengers. Prices may be obtained from the Bedroom Steward.

Fire and Lifeboat Stations
Passengers are urged to acquaint themselves with the notice in staterooms regarding lifeboat and fire stations. The Master earnestly appeals to passengers to assist by mustering promptly at their appointed stations at all times when passenger boat station muster is held. Only by immediate attendance and co-operation at this muster can passengers obtain the instructions so vital to the well-being of all on board.
Fire Precautions
Passengers are requested to exercise care in disposing of cigar and cigarette ends and matches, and to make use of the receptacles provided for this purpose in various parts of the ship. Serious consequences can arise from carelessness in this respect. Lighted cigarettes, etc., must not be thrown overboard.
Radio Receivers and Electrical Apparatus
Private radio receivers or other electrical apparatus and appliances must not be operated or connected to the ship's electrical supply circuits without official approval, application for which should be made to the Purser. Disregard of this notice may result in damage to the appliances and/or to the ship's wiring. Passengers using loudspeakers are requested to avoid disturbing fellow passengers.

Passengers should request their Bedroom Stewards to open and close port holes in staterooms as desired. It is dangerous for passengers to operate ports themselves.

Passengers are warned against using salt water for bathing while ship is in cruise ports. Fresh water showers are always available for passengers’ use.
Liquor Purchases
Liquors purchased by passengers at ports of call for landing at New York will be received on board by the Baggage Master and given special stowage which is entirely at passengers’ risk. These packages will be delivered to staterooms shortly before the ship docks at New York.
Liquors intended for consumption during the Cruise should be brought on board personally by the passengers concerned. In compliance, with Section 6 of the Federal Alcohol Administration Act, passengers should not purchase for importation into the United States containers of liquor of more than one gallon capacity each.
Customs Allowances
Passengers remaining outside of the United States 48 hours or longer are allowed a $100.00 exemption on articles acquired abroad. This exemption may be claimed not more than once every 30 days.
Special Notice
In order to insure the cruise schedule being properly maintained it is essential that the ship sail from all ports at the advertised time. To effect this, all passengers are most particularly requested to inform their bedroom stewards of their return on board after sightseeing, etc. on shore. This is the only way by which your return to the ship can be made known to the ship's officers.
