Ocean Bulletin

[Requires 1024x768 screen]

06/07 January
programme

Every morning while the ship is at sea you'll receive a copy of that morning's “Ocean Bulletin”. Production of this paper was highly conditional upon atmospheric conditions with the text coming to the ship via the Radio Room. With good reception you'd get up to 4 sides, otherwise information like the New York Stock Exchange results would miss the run and be posted on the bulletin boards later.

Back then, the invention of technologies like a fax machine, even satellites for telephony, were nothing more than science-fiction! A fax machine always needed a clear and uninterrupted signal, so it's doubtful it ever made its way into this task.

The text, received by the night-watch Radio Officer, would then be taken down to the print-shop for it to be typeset and printed ready for distribution with that day's programmes, competition sheets, Cruise News bulletins etc.

Clearly, not everyone was tucked-up in their bunks overnight!
