Bergen in Early 1960s

Further research and kind contributions of photographs by John Higgins and Billy Flaherty help to expand the story of the Wareham & Bergen Trophy. A programme for the 1961 match, held in Bergen, reveals the match history from its inception in Singapore in 1955.

The 1960 Tournament Aftermath

As recorded above, in 1960 it was Balmoral who was victorious with a 2-0 win. Tradition dictated that a mock coffin would be buried at sea by the victors, after the ship sailed from Bergen. Below we see the 1960 match aftermath.

The Early 1960s Parades

By this time, each restaurant team had created itself a distinctive banner. Indeed, as is evident from the photo of the Sandringham Dynamos below, it appears that a new one for a new decade had been created. What is also noticeable is the large increase of local spectators.
