1957 Westbound Transatlantic
24 June 1st Class Luncheon Menu
This is another “Green Goddess” luncheon menu. Like in 1950, it's taken from a Westbound transatlantic crossing from Southampton to New York in June 1957. It probably shows Caronia at the epitome of her career, well before the bean-counters came along and started meddling in the 1960s.
The printing has expanded to two sides of a large format cover, where hitherto, “la carte” was on one side only. This was probably the widest choice of food available in any high class restaurant, ashore or afloat. If you are in any doubt about this claim, name any restaurant on the planet offering a 12 choices cheeseboard!
If you came to this page feeling peckish, you will definitely feel ravenous by the time you have read through this bill of fare. The Soup and Fish Cooks were masters of their art and never a dud of a dish was passed off by them!
