They Think of Everything!
Meeting the passengers’ every whim was not just a preserve of Caronia's crew, though there was no competition over this between us and the Cruise Staff. Back in the 1960s you could buy colour film, usually slide film, from Kodak that had its processing costs built into the purchase price. This made buying Kodak films a pricey affair! Photography, unless you did your own processing, was not a cheap hobby at any rate.
One drawback over purchasing these films was that the processing was a time-limited affair. It was up to you to ensure that your exposures were sent back to Kodak within the date embossed into the end cover of its box. Passengers could buy Kodak films from the on-board shop, though they did come at a premium!
On major cruises, passengers’ films would be collected by the Cruise Staff at an arranged time. They would be flown directly to Kodak at one of its Worldwide processing centres as a dedicated service. The slides would then be returned to meet the ship at a future port, where they would be collected by photographers after the ship had sailed from that port.
Back in the day, colour photography could be quite hit & miss, with camera technology still very much in its infancy. “Point & Shoot” was yet to be invented. This photo service would be another quite mundane task turned into two simple yet effective social occasions where notes could be compared.

On the Great World Cruises the “Cruise News” folder containing souvenir copies of the daily ephemera only contained a small selection of the original daily programme cards. With nearly 100 of these produced, size and storage problems meant that only thin paper facsimiles could be included in this folder.
Therefore the logo seen left has been used for linking to the daily programme reproductions placed here. The logo is unique to this cruise, featuring on the cover of the Passenger List.
