More Passenger Feedback
As with the January 1960 feedback, I'm delighted to hear from another former passenger on Caronia's run to New York via the West Indies. Below are her recollections and some photographs taken on the trip.
Amanda Ashley, who travelled on this voyage as far as Kingston, Jamaica writes…
In 1961, when I was 10 years old, my family moved to Jamaica for a couple of years. We departed from Southampton on the Caronia with the first stop at Le Havre and then onto a stop at Bermuda. The next stop for us was Kingston Jamaica where we left the ship. The Caronia then continued to New York for her world cruise.
It was one of the most wonderful 10 days in my life which I have never forgotten. We were lucky enough to travel first class and I believe we were in cabins 32 and 33 which were next to the nursery, even though my sister and I were too old at 10 and 12!

I also remember the beautiful swan ice carving in the restaurant and my parents were furious when I kept choosing vegetarian dishes. I was obviously ahead of my time.
My sister and I also enjoyed the cinema and the gym. You may also be interested to know that we took our Boxer dog with us and he was housed in a kennel near the funnel which we visited frequently.
The jockey Eddie Hyde and his wife were on the Caronia at the same time as my family (Gilliland). We used to have a photo of them chatting to my parents but I think it may now be lost. I believe they were going on the World Cruise.
