New York 1963 Landing Arrangements

Below is a transcript of the Landing Arrangements card issued to passengers at the end of the 1963 Great World Cruise.
THE ATTENTION OF PASSENGERS IS CALLED TO THE FOLLOWING
ARRIVAL
Weather and other circumstances permitting, the ship is expected to dock at Pier 90 (foot of West 50th Street), North River, New York, at approximately 8am on Sunday, 28 April, 1963.
BREAKFAST
will be served from 7.00 a.m. on Sunday.
IMMIGRATION
Immigration officials will board the vessel at approx. 6.45am on Sunday, 28 April, and shortly afterwards commence the examination of Passengers Passports and Vaccination Certificates and stamp Landing Cards. The inspection will take place in the Lounge. All passengers must attend to this formality. Stamped Landing Cards must be surrendered at the gangway on disembarkation.
U.S. CUSTOMS
All passengers are required to make a written declaration of personal baggage for the U.S. Customs Authorities at New York. Passengers who have not yet completed this form are requested to see the Ship's Baggage Master as soon as possible.
RETURNING RESIDENTS
of the United States must declare all articles acquired abroad, but wearing apparel and personal effects taken overseas from the U.S. in the first case are entitled to be passed free of duty upon return. An exemption of $100 worth of purchases is allowed each returning resident, subject to certain conditions which will be detailed by the Customs Officer.
NON-RESIDENTS
may take in free of duty wearing apparel and personal effects not intended for sale, but must declare all articles not included in this category. Severe penalties are imposed upon persons who make false declarations as to value, ownership or use of articles, or attempt to bribe or recompense a Customs Officer. All baggage should bear the initial of passenger's surname, as on arrival baggage is grouped alphabetically on the Pier.
Initial labels can be obtained from bedroom stewards. When all the passenger's baggage is available under the initial letter the passenger must go to the Customs desk on the pier and present the numbered slip taken from his Declaration Form. In exchange he will receive his completed Declaration Form and should then return to his baggage which will be examined as quickly as possible by an Inspector stationed in the area.
It Is for passengers themselves to see that all their baggage is passed by the Customs Authorities on landing, and they are specially requested to claim their baggage before leaving the Customs Shed. Otherwise delay and extra charges for carriage will be incurred in forwarding to destination any baggage not accompanying passengers directly from the ship.
Prohibition of Fruits, Vegetables, Plants, Plant Products and Meats
into the U.S.A. under Department of Agriculture Regulations. Apples, oranges, lemons, tangerines, grapefruit and untanned meats are confiscated, and in order to avoid delay in the completion of the examination of your baggage, it is recommended that these items not be taken ashore in the United States, but disposed of on board the vessel.
CHECKING BAGGAGE ON BOARD
Passengers may arrange with the Ship's Baggage Master for the transfer of baggage from the Company's Pier to any point in Greater New York, Jersey City and Hoboken, including railroad terminals, hotels, residences, express companies or warehouses. Rates and information are available from the Baggage Master.
BAGGAGE IN BOND
Passengers proceeding to points outside the United States may have baggage sent in bond, providing they make suitable mention of the fact on their Customs Declaration Form. The checking of bonded baggage may be arranged by railroad representatives and express company representatives on the Pier, in conjunction with the Customs Authorities. The Baggage Master will be pleased to supply information.
BAGGAGE
Passengers are requested to have their cabin baggage, with the exeption of an overnight bag, packed and ready for removal from staterooms by 2pm on Saturday, 27 April.
HANDLING OF BAGGAGE AT NEW YORK
Porters are available at the Pier to assist incoming and outgoing passengers with their baggage. This service of handling Baggage is paid for by the Cunard Line. Tipping is entirely optional. Passengers are CAUTIONED against allowing baggage porters to check their baggage with truckmen who station themselves outside the Company's piers.
Representatives of the HENDRICKSON TRANSFER COMPANY, a reliable organisation, will be found on the UPPER LEVEL of the Company's piers.
WARNING Passengers are reminded that it is unsafe to leave their baggage unattended on the Pier after it has been examined by the U.S. Customs and their Examination stamps affixed thereto.
Passengers are requested to call at the Purser's Office for mail or telegrams. After disembarkation, enquiries should also be made at the Mail Desk on the Pier for mail, telegrams and messages from friends who may be waiting outside the Customs barrier.
