  • the beautiful Parliament House with its crouching stone lions;
  • the National Theatre with its colossal statues of Ibsen and Bjornsen;
  • and finally the Royal Palace, dominating the city.

Oslo has other attractions unique even among Scandinavian cities: two ancient Viking ships in which far-roving chieftains were buried centuries ago amid their arms and trophies, and, in the tiny nearby village of Bygdo, a National Museum made up of typical old houses from various parts of the country with appropriate furniture and domestic articles.

Sixty miles from the open sea, at the head of the picturesque Oslofjord, is the city of Oslo, capital of Norway. Founded by the Norse King, Harald Hardrade, the city celebrated its ninth centenary in 1950.

During the reign of King Christian IV the city was rebuilt on higher ground, and its name was changed to Christiana. Its original name, Oslo, was restored in the year 1925. The royal residence is located in Oslo, which is the seat of the Government of Norway.

Arrival at Oslo

RMS CARONIA is due to anchor off Oslo, Norway, at approximately 9.00pm on Tuesday, 15 July. Those passengers desiring to go ashore the evening of arrival will be disembarked by ship's launches beginning upon arrival.

The service will be continuous until all desiring to go ashore have been accommodated.

Launch Service

The service will then be half-hourly from ship and shore until 1am, Wednesday, 16 July when it will be retarded to an hourly shore service until 8am.

From 8am, a continuous launch service will be effected until passengers taking morning excursions have been transferred.

The service will then be retarded to half-hourly ship-and-shore departures until 1am Thursday, 17 July, when it will revert to hourly share service.

will leave the landing place in automobiles for a drive in and around Oslo with visits to the world-famous ski-jumping hill of Holmenkollen

Then on to Frognerseteren, Bygdo and its open air museum with its collection of arts and crafts of old Norway housed in old Norwegian cottages, the Viking ship, the Kon Tiki raft and the Polar ship “Fram”.

This excursion terminates at the landing place about 12:30 P.M. in time for luncheon on the CARONIA.

will take the tour outlined above, returning about 5pm, in time for dinner on the CARONIA.

Leave hotel by motor coach for the Nordic museum for a short visit and from there to Waldermarsudde to visit the gardens and part of the Palace of the late Prince Eugene and then to the outdoor museum Skansen where an exhibition of Swedish Folk Dances will be seen.

Transfer to railway station.

Leave Stockholm by special train.

Arrive at Malmo and transfer to special ferry for Copenhagen. Breakfast will be served on ferry.

Arrive at Copenhagen and transfer to motor coaches for a short sightseeing tour of the city arriving at Wivex Restaurant about 11:15am.

Luncheon at Wivex Restaurant.
2:30pm
Leave by motor coach for the North Zealand drive, proceeding along the Danish Riviera via the town of Hillerod for a visit to Frederiksborg Castle, thence Elsinore where Kronborg Castle may be seen and to the Marienlyst Hotel, arriving about 6.15pm.

Launch Service

Launch service, as required, will be operated from 8am, Thursday, until all desiring to go ashore early have been accommodated. During the day, the half-hourly service will be in effect, accelerated when required. The last launch from shore will be at 5.15pm.

Optional Tour O-18: Oslo - Lake Tyrifjord Drive
9:30am
Motor coaches will leave the landing place for a sightseeing drive in and around Oslo, including the School of Navigation on the hillside of Ekeberg, where an excellent bird's-eye view of Oslo is afforded.

The drive continues through the city to Frogner Park with its famous Vigeland sculptures and Vigeland Fountain and Monolith; thence through the suburbs and pine woods to Solihogda and the Sundoya Restaurant on the Tyrifjord, a fresh water fjord, for luncheon.

Leaving Sundoya and return along the shore of the Oslofjord arriving Oslo about 3:30pm.
