The Weinman Collection
1959 World Cruise Memorabilia
I never cease to be overwhelmed by the generosity of visitors to the Timeline. There are rarely days that go by now without someone offering some new snippet of information, or telling me about their connection with the Caronia.
I'm delighted to add the Weinman Collection of memorabilia to the Timeline. While these may have Bernard Weinman's name, it's probable that this was gathered by his wife who's first name is unknown. They were a Jewish couple who had sailed on the 1957 North Cape Cruise and also the 1959 Great World Cruise from where this collection stems.
While there are a few ship artefacts, the value in their collection is of period postcards, sent to various members of her family 60 years ago. Curiously, these have been gathered together again. It looks like someone in the family went round and gathered up everything sent into one place.
Below is an example of one of the postcards, sent from San Francisco possibly to their daughter, who was then part of the Mr. & Mrs. M. Goldstein household of Lancaster, Penna. The prevalence of the husband's first name over that of his wife is an historical reflection of that time.

There was quite a large Jewish community aboard Caronia and it appears that the Weinmans fitted right in, with invites to parties and also hosting a large one of their own. Of which, more anon…
