To conform to regulations governing embarkations it is essential that passengers, in each class, embark at the times shown, and if availing of the special trains travel by the trains arranged for the class for which they are booked.

Special Train Reservations

not later than three clear days before sailing date, in order that Pullman, First Class or Second Class seats may be reserved. There is no extra charge for these reservations, except for Pullman seats.

♠ Pullman Seats

First Class Pullman cars are available on special trains marked ♠ for First Class steamer passengers, and seats may be reserved in advance at 14/6d., per supplement. As the number of cars is strictly limited, seats cannot be guaranteed as being available, therefore early application is recommended.

Passengers proceeding to Southampton Docks via London are advised that through train tickets from the starting point of their journey can be purchased at the normal fare to London plus the special train fare London to Southampton Docks.

As passengers will have passed through the Immigration and Customs (inc. Currency) Controls prior to embarkation, they cannot be allowed to leave the ship, or make any contact with persons ashore, during the interval between boarding and sailing.

Passengers can materially assist in expediting embarkation procedure if they have readily available for inspection by the Company's representative on the special trains and/or at Southampton the following documents, as applicable

1. Atlantic Passage Ticket
2. Tickets, if any, for travel beyond U.S. or Canadian Port of Disembarkation
3. Valid Passport.

   American citizens are reminded that as the United States Passport Control Regulations require all American Citizens arriving in the United States to be in possession of a valid passport, any such passengers whose passports have expired must secure renewal before they can be permitted to embark.

   Temporary Visitors, Immigrants and Returning Residents — See important notice at foot of page 6.

4. Re-Entry Permit or U.S. Visa as applicable.

   Holders of “Quota” and “Non-Quota” Visas must produce the actual Immigration Visa Certificate, with appropriate medical reports attached.

   In lieu of Re-Entry Permit, non U.S. Citizens legally admitted as Immigrants to the United States, and who are re-entering within twelve months of departure to an unrelinquished domicile in that country, must possess Alien Registration Card (U.S. Form 1-151). The old types of Registration Card (AR-3 and AR-103) are not valid for this purpose.

   Passengers travelling to Canada or any other country via U.S.A. (except Canadian Citizens and British subjects who are returning to their permanent residence in Canada or Bermuda) require a valid U.S. transit or visitor's visa.

5. Vaccination Certificate.

   Passengers proceeding to either U.S.A. or Canada require a medical certificate confirming successful vaccination or re-vaccination within three years of arrival at the port of entry.

6. Canadian Visa.

   Passengers (other than of British or Irish nationality, U.S. Citizens and those in direct transit) destined to or travelling via Canada, require Canadian visa. Passengers of British or Irish nationality by naturalisation, or those born outside the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, the Union of South Africa or the Republic of Ireland, emigrating to Canada, also require Canadian visas.

7. Canadian Medical Card.

   Emigrants of British or Irish nationality proceeding to Canada must hold a valid Canadian medical card, also, where applicable, letter from prospective employer. Canadian relative or sponsor or evidence of possessing sufficient money in Canadian funds, i.e. banker's drafts, travellers’ cheques, etc., to maintain themselves until employment in Canada is obtained.

8. Return Atlantic Ticket.

   Visitors to U.S.A. or Canada travelling either direct or in transit should possess a return ticket, also satisfactory evidence of maintenance facilities during the stay in U.S.A. or Canada. Travellers who intend to purchase their return ticket in U.S.A. or Canada should be able to produce satisfactory evidence of their ability to do so.

9. National Health Service Medical Card.

   Only travellers normally resident in Great Britain or Northern Ireland and intending to remain abroad for more than three months are required to produce this document.

    Applicable only to persons, aged 16 years or over, who are not of British or Irish nationality.

12. Currency Certificate “C”, which is the Bank of England authority to enable passengers to take out of the country securities and Life Assurance Policies (and documents of title relating to them)

13. Export Licence and Finance Regulations Form (C.D.3).

    These forms cover the export of valuables, jewellery, fur coats, etc. Passengers can obtain full particulars from their Bankers.

United Kingdom Finance Regulations

Passengers are not permitted to take out of the United Kingdom more than £50 in sterling notes for shipboard use, and on return for landing expenses. Also Sterling Travellers’ cheques, payable only in the sterling area, may be purchased in small denominations which may be used on board for the payment of bills, etc.

These Sterling Travellers’ cheques cannot be cashed though small amounts of change will be given where necessary.

Banks or Authorised Travel Agents can make available to persons resident in the United Kingdom, foreign exchange facilities to a maximum of £250 per head during any “travel year” available in all countries outside the sterling area, including Canada and United States of America.

Applications for facilities in excess of £250 per head should be submitted to the Bank of England on Form T.2.

Ocean fare and all inland transportation including hotels, meals, etc. can be paid in sterling prior to departure from this country.

Travellers who have no foreign exchange and are not being met on arrival are advised to arrange for their relatives or friends in U.S.A. or Canada to deposit with the Company's office at U.S.A. or Canadian port of arrival sufficient funds to cover incidental expenses on landing, such as meals on trains, etc.

General Information

Vaccination
The United States Public Health Regulations require that all passengers must hold a medical certificate showing successful vaccinations or re-vaccination against smallpox within three years of expected date of arrival in the United States.

This rule applies to all passengers proceeding to the United States whether travelling direct or via Canadian Ports. The Canadian Government require all passengers arriving in Canada (either direct or via United States Ports) to hold a certificate covering vaccination against smallpox within three years of expected date of arrival in Canada, and the result of such vaccination.

Passengers are, therefore, advised to obtain the necessary certificate before proceeding to the port of embarkation.

Definition of Baggage
Passengers’ baggage is understood to consist of wearing apparel and effects appropriate for the journey and for the travellers’ personal comfort and convenience. No responsibility can be accepted for the breakage of fragile articles placed in baggage and passengers are requested not to pack glassware, etc. containing liquids, the breakage of which could cause considerable damage to accompanying articles.

Baggage must be packed in suitable containers such as travelling trunks, bags, suitcases or handy sized packages which can be readily opened for Customs examination.

MERCHANDISE MUST BE SHIPPED AS FREIGHT. INFLAMMABLE OR DANGEROUS ARTICLES SUCH AS MATCHES, CLEANING FLUIDS, LIGHTER FUEL, GASOLINE (PETROL), MOVING PICTURE FILMS, FIREWORKS, GUNPOWDER, CARTRIDGES, ETC., MUST IN NO CIRCUMSTANCES BE ENCLOSED IN BAGGAGE.

Labelling Baggage
It is very important that each piece of baggage should bear a label showing names of owner, ship, class of travel, date of sailing, port of departure, port of landing, also a label bearing the initial of owner's surname.

Suitable labels and tie-on tags will be supplied upon application, intimating class of travel and port of landing in the United States or Canada. It is respectfully requested that passengers should remove or deface all old labels in order to avoid inconvenience of loss or delay.

Straps Around Trunks
Straps securing trunks, etc., should be screwed or clamped in position at frequent intervals. Coats, umbrellas or wraps should not be fastened outside packages. No liability can be accepted for any loss occurring in
the above circumstances.

Baggage in Advance
Passengers are advised to send their heavy baggage in advance. All packages sent in advance should be despatched by passenger train as early as possible but at least in sufficient time to ensure delivery at port of embarkation 48 hours prior to sailing date, addressed to:

The attached advice of despatch form should be completed and posted to:

at the time the baggage is despatched.

ALL BAGGAGE (INCLUDING HOLD BAGGAGE) WHETHER SENT IN ADVANCE TO THE PORT OR ACCOMPANYING THE PASSENGER MUST RECEIVE CUSTOMS CLEARANCE IN THE PRESENCE OF THE PASSENGER AT THE TIME OF EMBARKATION.

Baggage Insurance
As the Company's liability for baggage is strictly limited in accordance with contract tickets, passengers are recommended to cover their personal effects against ALL RISKS. Rates of Premium will be quoted on application to any of the Company's Offices.

Baggage Allowance
Ocean excess charges on baggage going forward by the special trains from Waterloo to Southampton will be calculated on a weight basis and a free ocean allowance of 275 lbs. is granted, any excess weight being charged at the rate of 8d. per pound.

Rail excess charges are also calculated on a weight basis at appropriate scale, the free allowance being as follows :—

First Class Rail Ticket holders — 150 lbs.
Second Class Rail Ticket holders — 100 lbs.

Both rail and ocean excess charges are collected when the baggage is weighed at Waterloo Station.

Where baggage is not conveyed by the special trains the free ocean allowance is 25 cubic feet measurement per passenger, excluding infants, and the charge for excess baggage is 7s. 0d. per cubic foot.

Collection of Baggage in London
For the convenience of passengers located within the two miles radius of Charing Cross, arrangements have been made for collecting and delivery of baggage direct to the steamer at the following rates:

SOUTHAMPTON:
10/- per Trunk
5/- per Suitcase

Passengers desiring to avail themselves of this service should communicate with the Company's London Office.

Storage of Baggage
Facilities are available for the storage of passengers’ baggage at the Company's London Office, at the rate of 6d. per package per week or part thereof.

Export Parcels
Whilst facilities are granted to passengers for the shipment of packages purchased under the Personal Export Scheme, passengers are informed that the Company does not accept liability for the loss of or damage to contents of such packages.

Baggage in Bond - U.S.A. & Canada
Passengers en route to destinations outside the U.S.A. or Canada can arrange for their baggage to be checked and forwarded “in Bond” to frontier points, thus saving Customs examination at port of landing. The Purser or Baggage Master will be pleased to supply full information.

Warning
All baggage is liable to examination at the time of embarkation, and, after inspection by Customs, should be locked before transfer to the ship. Unlocked packages, jewellery cases, small bags, coats, furs and cameras should remain in the personal care of the passenger.

Passengers are cautioned not to leave articles, such as coats, cameras, binoculars, etc. in the stateroom unattended while in port. If leaving the stateroom at such time, passengers should notify the bedroom steward to lock the room.

Livestock
Livestock (animals or birds) is carried at the sole risk of the Owner, although every effort is made to ensure that adequate care is exercised during the voyage. A Veterinary Certificate of good health is required dated within ten days of shipment.

Animals are not permitted in passengers’ cabins. Kennels, which must be reserved in advance, are provided for dogs. Baskets must be provided for the conveyance of cats.

Restaurant
Passengers requesting particular seats or tables are invited to submit alternatives to their first choice. Whilst every effort will be made to comply with passengers’ wishes, specific seating or sitting cannot be
guaranteed.

Deck Chairs, Rugs & Cushions
May be reserved at time of ocean booking or hired on board on application to the Deck Steward. A charge of 10/- each is made for deck chairs and 5/- each for rugs and cushions which is payable on board.

Passengers’ Mail, Inward & Outward Steamers
Passengers expecting urgent letters or telegrams should notify the Purser's Office. For the convenience of passengers, telegrams and postal matter are received aboard and distributed but without any responsibility whatsoever on the part of The Cunard Steamship Company Limited, for non-delivery, mis-delivery or delay.

It will assist the system of delivery if letters are endorsed prominently in the top left-hand corner “Passengers’ Mail” and addressed care of The Cunard Steamship Company Limited at port of departure or arrival and also bear the following particulars :-

Accommodation Addresses
When it is desired to use any of the Company's Offices as accommodation addresses, it is essential that the envelope be endorsed prominently in the top left-hand corner “Passengers’ Mail — to await instructions” and be addressed care of the appropriate Company's Office or Agency.

The Cunard Steamship Company Limited allow their offices to be so used and forward letters, telegrams and postal matter for the convenience of passengers only, and shall be under no responsibility whatsoever for non-delivery, misdelivery or delay.

Booking Cancellations
The attention of passengers is directed to the Clause in Westbound passage contract tickets, which specifies that passage money will be forfeited in the event passages are cancelled or not used for the sailing for which transportation is booked.

Passengers are reminded that under present conditions the cancellation of accommodation represents a loss of revenue unless notification is given in time to effect resale. The Company, therefore, reserves the right to refuse refunds when passengers cancel or transfer to other sailings, if the space released is not resold.

U.S. Visa Regulations
Passengers destined to the United States, except U.S. Citizens and holders of Re-Entry Permits (or Alien Registration Card (1-151 in lieu) require a Visa issued by a U.S. Consul.

Alien Registration Card (1-151) may only be used to cover re-entry into the U.S.A. when the holder is re-entering within twelve months of departure. The old types of Registration Card (AR-3 and AR-103) are not valid for this purpose.

Canadian Citizens proceeding from Europe to resume permanent residence in the United States must comply with the abovementioned requirements.

Passengers in transit via the United States to Canada or any other country require passport or other travel document, endorsed for travel to U.S.A., and a U.S. transit or visitor's visa to enter the United States temporarily, except that Canadian Citizens and British subjects permanently resident in Canada or Bermuda and returning to their domicile there require only passports.

Holders of U.S. Non-immigrant (Temporary Visitors, etc.) Visas are required to present at the port of arrival Passports valid for a period of six months beyond the intended date of departure from the United States.

Passports of the United Kingdom (including British Dominions and Colonies), also those of the Republic of Ireland and certain other countries will, for this purpose, be regarded as remaining valid for a period of six months beyond the expiration date specified in the Passport.

Where any doubt exists travellers are urged to consult any Cunard Line office or local agent.

The Passports of holders of “Quota” and “Non-Quota” Immigrant Visas must be Valid for at least Sixty Days beyond the expiration date of the Immigrant Visa.

Passengers who are proceeding direct to a Canadian port for a temporary visit to Canada and who intend to return via New York require a U.S. Visa, and are strongly urged, in their own interest, to obtain this prior to departure from the British Isles.

Failure to do so may cause considerable inconvenience to passengers, and even result in their being unable to return by the sailing for which they are booked.

Visas cannot be obtained at port of embarkation on day of sailing.
