I am so happy that on this, my third visit to Clydeside, my future husband is by my side. He has served with the Royal Navy in war and in peace… Naturally, he shares my interest in your achievements and my pride in the fame which our designers and builders have won for us throughout the ages and which will be given new life in this new ship.

Our Merchant Navy… has never taken second place to that of any nation. The Cunard White Star Line, under whose flag the “Caronia” will sail, has played a very great part in winning these laurels for our country.

Diamond Jubilee Celebration

We, the former officers and crew of RMS Caronia, hereby convey our loyal greetings to Your Royal Highness on the wonderful occasion of your Diamond Jubilee and in recognition of your involvement with a ship upon which we were all very proud to serve.

The history of the RMS Caronia, launched by Your Royal Highness as the last public engagement before your marriage all those years ago, still evokes fond memories of a proud tradition. Even though her cruises were directly aimed at an American clientèle, the wonderful portrait hung in the main lounge always reminded travellers aboard of just how British the beloved “Green Goddess” was.

We wish to salute you and publicly acknowledge your steadfastness over so many years of service and proudly mark this historic occasion.
