THERE IS A FJORD IN YOUR FUTURE

Norway's western fjords loom large in the overall geography of the country. From Stavanger in the south to Kristiansund in the north is a distance of 300 miles as the crow flies, and here the fjords penetrate into the mainland to a depth of more than 100 miles.

Penetration suggests that the sea created the fjords, but in fact all the sea has done is to fill the tremendous ravines which the ice has carved out of the rock. West Norway's fjords are, in other words, submerged valleys filled with the warm salt water from the Gulf Stream.

Some are wide and majestic, others are rough and narrow canyons where nature's primeval spirit still seems to lurk. The loveliest of the fjords are poems of pinpoint peaks and sheer mountain walls, grassy banks and blossoming orchards.

Mountains and valleys and glittering glaciers fill the spaces between the fjords, but it is the fjords themselves which give West Norway its specific, distinctive character. They are like giant trees, their roots nurtured amid the peaks and glaciers of central Norway, their crown mingled with the countless islands on the edge of the ocean. For the visitor the fjords are summer-fair, with friendly bays and redolent with the scent of fruit blossom.

On the Caronia North Cape Cruise it will not be difficult to see the majestic beauty of the fjord country, for your great cruise liner can reach the farthest arm of some of the most spectacular fjords in Norway. Along and between the fjords, roads have been built, offering outstanding scenic attractions. Many who have travelled the whole world over, assert without reservation that Norway's western fjords are the loveliest of nature's creations.

As the Caronia sails through these waters on her North Cape Cruise, you will see the fjord glittering beneath green mountains - the fjord which is the beautiful and immutable link between past and present in this ancient landscape. Time stands still. Such moments of profound and perfect composure can be experienced in Norway's fjord country. Therefore we believe that there's a fjord in your future too.
