Cookies

Cookies are a technology often used to provide you with tailored information from a Web site. They are elements of data a Web site can send to your browser, which may then be stored on your system. You can set your browser to notify you about cookies, giving options on whether to accept them, or not.

No cookies are set by my Web site until display settings are actively changed by a visitor. Advance warning, along with an exit route, is given on the Display Options page. Cookies will need to be accepted for display choices other than the default to work.

My Web site uses the following cookies ONLY when a visitor actively chooses to modify their text display using the on-site options I have provided:

These set and remember your display setting choice. One lasts for only 30 minutes to allow time for selecting a suitable display option. The other remains in effect until you change your display or you manually delete it. Resetting to the default display option of: “caronia” will automatically delete any extant cookies.

Data Collection

When visiting Web sites certain information about you and your computer will often be collected. This section explains what information Peter Stevens collects, and how it is used.

I collect the following information from or about my visitors:

Interpretation of Collected Information

Search Data…
is collected to identify trends or potential for improving reponses to search terms should they be repeated. No identifying information is collected. Search terms are cleared regularly and are over-written every time the Search Database is rebuilt.

Analytics…
and Site logs are mostly studied to banish web robots intent on either stealing information, email address harvesting and/or other pesky activities designed to spoil your day. I use software called “AWStats” for interpreting site logs to present non-personalised information that, among other things will…

• distinguish various trends like:
  • page popularity or otherwise,
  • hourly activity,
  • and daily or aggregated activity.
• identify countries visitors come from,
• identify sites visitors were referred from,
• list technology, like browser versions, used and
• identify site errors like broken or missing items.

I no longer refer to Google Site Analytics™ for any purpose.

Rights

I reserve the right at my discretion to either temporarily or permanently stop direct access to my Web site by any person or organisation where...

• an excessive amount of bandwidth is being used,
• spamming activities are detected,
• there is no adherence to the Robots Exclusion standard,
• any activity where a strong belief exists that the safety of, or open access to, the site could be compromised for other visitors.

Disclosure

Other than as indicated above, unless I am required to do so by legal instruction from a recognised Law Enforcement Body, no collected information is revealed to anyone beyond myself and the authorised agents of my site hosts.

Dispute Resolution

Visitors may complain directly to me for resolution of disputes regarding the use of collected data.
