The magnificent Monastery of the Jeronymos at Belem, built on the site of a hospice founded by Prince Henry the Navigator, will be visited first.
It was at this hospice that Vasco da Gama spent his last night on shore before embarking on his voyage of discovery around the Cape of Good Hope to India in 1497. The monastery was built by King Manuel as a thanks offering to commemorate the success of the undertaking.
Other sightseeing includes historic Black Horse Square, the unique Rock Gardens, the famous Museum of Coaches, and the principal business and residential streets of Portugal's handsome capital city.

Tour #76: Queluz and Sintra
Afternoon and Evening, by Automobile
Drive through the pleasant countryside surrounding Lisbon, stopping to see the charming palace of Queluz, the “Versailles” of Portugal. Continue to Pena Palace, a medieval-type fortress-castle standing on a mountain top overlooking Sintra and the broad valley of the Tagus River.
Descend to Sintra, the “Glorious Eden” of Byron's poem.
Dinner will be served at a leading restaurant, before returning to Lisbon to rejoin the Caronia.

Return to Lisbon along the coast road through the fashionable resorts of Cascais and Estoril, the “Monte Carlo” of Portugal, arriving at dockside in time for sailing.
