Tour #76: Okinawa Island Drive
Full-Day, by Motor Coach
Drive from Naha into the Okinawan countryside passing Makiminato, Chatan, Kadena, and Moon Beach. A visit will be made to the U.S. Army War Museum, where many mementos of the epic struggle for possession of the island during World War II are on display.
Then drive to Nakagusuku Park to see the ruins of the 500-year-old castle which was used as a command post first by the Japanese and then by the Americans in 1945.
Return to Naha where luncheon will be served at the Ryukyu Tokyo Hotel and a special programme of Okinawan folk dances will be presented.
In the afternoon, drive through the southern part of the island visiting a native mausoleum, General Buckner's Memorial,
and the Japanese students' monument.
Rejoin the Caronia in time for sailing.

After an early luncheon at Ryukyu Tokyu Hotel, fly (2 hours) to Kagoshima on the Japanese island of Kyushu. Connect

The morning is at leisure for independent activities in Japan's classical city. Afternoon sightseeing features Nijo
Castle, the Old Imperial Palace, Heian Shrine, and the Golden Pavilion.
In the evening, attend a special sukiyaki dinner with Geisha entertainment at a typical Japanese restaurant.

KYOTO - NARA - NAGOYA
In the morning, drive to Nara to see the Kasuga Shrine, Todaiji Temple with its colossal bronze Buddha, and the famous Deer Park.
After luncheon, return to Kyoto and depart by super limited express train for Nagoya. Overnight at the Nagoya Miyako Hotel.

NAGOYA - ODAWARA - HAKONE - MIYANOSHITA
In the morning, visit Nagoya Castle and a Chinaware factory. Then leave for Odawara by super limited express train, with luncheon served en route.
Upon arrival, drive into Fuji-Hakone National Park, skirting beautiful Lake Hakone with views of snow-clad Fujiyama (weather permitting). There will also be a cable-car ride to Sounzan and a cruise on Lake Hakone by motor launch.
Overnight at the Fujiya Hotel in Miyanoshita.

MIYANOSHITA - KAMAKURA - TOKYO
Morning drive to Kamakura to visit the giant Daibutsu Buddha. Continue to Tokyo, where the afternoon is at leisure for
shopping and independent activities.
Two nights' accommodations at the Hotel Okura.
In the evening, attend a performance of the girls' revue at the Kokusai Theatre.

TOKYO - NIKKO - TOKYO
Leave by early morning train for Nikko. Upon arrival, sightseeing will feature the Sacred Bridge and the Toshogu Shrine with its brilliant Yomeimon Gate. Luncheon at the Kanaya Hotel.
In the afternoon, drive into the mountainous countryside to visit Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Waterfall.
Return to Tokyo by late afternoon train.

Morning sightseeing in Tokyo includes the Imperial Palace Plaza, the Diet Building, Meiji Shrine Outer Garden, Ueno Park, and famous Ginza Street. After luncheon, motor to Yokohama and rejoin the Caronia.
