Tour #6 - Pitch Lake, Trinidad

This Tour is especially designed for passengers who have visited Trinidad before, and sightseeing in Port of Spain and
Maracas Bay is not included.
Motor southward along the Gulf of Paria, past East Indian villages, sugar plantations and coconut groves to the port of La Brea. Here, great quantities of asphalt are exported from the only major source in the world.
Continue to the source itself — Pitch Lake, one of the great natural phenomena to be found in the West Indies. Asphalt deposits cover some 95 acres, from which is drawn an apparently inexhaustible source of wealth.
Sir Walter Raleigh caulked his ships with pitch from the lake, and Trinidad asphalt has since paved the streets of the world's great cities.
Return to Port of Spain in time for luncheon on board the ship.

Tour #7 - Port of Spain & Maracas Bay

Much of the finest tropical scenery in Trinidad is included in this drive through the Santa Cruz Valley, with its many
citrus groves and plantations.
Motor across the Saddle Back mountain and along the new North Coast Road built by American Seabees during World War II to Maracas Bay, a perfect South Sea island setting. Return through the attractive residential suburb of Maraval Valley to Port of Spain, where the principal streets and other places of interest will be seen.
A stop will be made at the Trinidad Hilton before rejoining the Caronia.
