This Excursion will be operated on each of the two days of the Caronia's visit in Ceylon.
Colombo, a cosmopolitan city of half a million people, is gay with the movement, colour and atmosphere of the Orient. It is famous as one of the leading jewel markets of the world.
Automobiles will leave the landing place at about 10am, visiting the business district known as the “Fort” and the native trading centre of “Pettah”, then the fashionable residential area known as the “Cinnamon Gardens”.
Among the many places of interest to be seen are the Hindu Temples, St. Lucia's Cathedral, the Buddhist Temple and the Wolfendaal Church, reminiscent of the days when the Dutch ruled Ceylon.
Luncheon will be taken at the famous Galle Face Hotel on the shores of the Indian Ocean.
During the afternoon automobiles are at members' disposal for shopping, a visit to the zoo at Dehiwela to see the elephants and other native animals, or a drive to Mt. Lavinia by the seaside for tea.
Return to the landing place in Colombo by 5.30pm.
The jewellery and curio shops of Colombo are expected to remain open on Sunday, 11 March, for the convenience of Caronia passengers.
