Cape Town

Leave by mid-morning plane for 6-hour direct flight to Livingstone.

Arrive in the afternoon and transfer to Victoria Falls Hotel.

Monday, 13 February 1956

Victoria Falls

Full day for visits to the Main Falls, Rainbow Falls, Devil's Cataract, the Palm Grove and Rain Forest, viewing this masterpiece of Nature from many vantage points.

Tuesday, 14 February 1956

Pretoria

After breakfast at Victoria Falls Hotel transfer to Livingstone Airport and leave by special plane, arriving at Pretoria about 3 hours later.

After luncheon drive to the Voortrekkers' Monument, Paul Kruger's House and the Union Buildings.

Overnight at Culembourg Hotel.

Wednesday, 15 February 1956

Johannesburg

Drive from Pretoria after breakfast to South Africa's largest city, where you visit the principal attractions and have luncheon.

Return to Pretoria for dinner, then leave by train for Kruger Park.

Kruger Park

Arrive Nelspruit early in the morning and continue by automobile for two days in this great wild life sanctuary, with accommodations at Pretorius Kop Rest Camp, and drives by automobile through the Park to see the many varieties of animals and birds.

On Friday evening leave Nelspruit by train for Pretoria.

Saturday, 18 February 1956

Durban

Arrive Pretoria in the morning and continue by plane to Durban, rejoining the Caronia in time for luncheon.

Afternoon drive (similar to Excursion E5) by automobile in Durban, beginning at about 3pm.

Leave late on the second afternoon of the ship's stay in Capetown, on 4-hour flight to Pretoria; transfer to Culembourg Hotel.

Monday, 13 February 1956

Pretoria & Johannesburg

Morning drive in Pretoria, capital of the Transvaal and of South Africa, visiting the Union Buildings, Paul Kruger's House and the Voortrekkers' Monument.

Drive to Johannesburg for luncheon and afternoon sightseeing in the Union's largest city.

Return to Pretoria for the night.

To Kruger Park

Drive eastward from Pretoria after breakfast, through the Transvaal to the citrus center of Nelspruit.

Luncheon here, then enter Kruger Park and motor through the game areas.

Overnight in Kruger Park.

Wednesday, 15 February 1956

Kruger Park

A full day of motoring, viewing many varieties of animals and birds in the world's largest wild game reserve, including the Hippo Pools and Skukuza district.

Overnight in Kruger Park.

Thursday, 16 February 1956

Swaziland

A scenic drive over the Swazi Mountains, with stops at the gold rush town of Barberton and a newly-opened asbestos mine.

Continue to Mbabane, capital of Swaziland.

Overnight at the Swazi Inn.

Friday, 17 February 1956

Hluhluwe

Morning drive through the Swazi country, passing the kraal of the Queen Mother.

Continue into Zululand and the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, with an evening drive to see wild game.

Overnight at Hluhluwe Rest Camp.

Saturday, 18 February 1956

Zululand

Morning in Hluhluwe Reserve, home of the famous white rhino.

After luncheon motor through the Zulu hills, passing the site of Choka's kraal.

Overnight at Royal Hotel in Eshowe, capital of Zululand.

Sunday, 19 February 1956

Durban

Pleasant morning drive past Natal's sugar fields and along the Indian Ocean coast road, arriving at Durban in time to rejoin the Caronia for luncheon.

Oudtshoorn and “The Wilderness”

Visit a celebrated Ostrich Farm, then cross the Outeniqua Pass down to the fertile coast region known as “The Wilderness”.

Follow Indian Ocean beaches through stinkwood forests to Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Tzitzikama Bay, whose Hottentot name means “Clear Waters”.

Overnight at Tzitzikama Forest Inn in Storms River.

Port Elizabeth

Drive through Humansdorp to the busy coast city of Port Elizabeth for luncheon.

Afternoon city drive, visiting the famous Snake Park.

Overnight at Marine Hotel.

Wednesday, 15 February 1956

Cape Frontier Country

This day's drive enters the country of the Cape Frontier Wars, via Grahamstown with its old fort and museum, and the seaside resort of East London.

Overnight at King's Hotel.

Thursday, 16 February 1956

Transkei Native Country

Motor across the Kei River to a reserve for the red-blanketed Xosa tribes, passing colourful villages and kraals.

Afternoon and night at Umtata, with opportunity to see African native life at close quarters in nearby centres.

Overnight at Savoy Hotel.

Friday, 17 February 1956

Durban

Continue through the native Transkei region along the Indian Ocean, to Kokstad in the hills.

After luncheon at Ixopo, drive through scenes of the novel “Cry the Beloved Country” to Pietermaritzburg, capital of Natal, and the Valley of the Thousand Hills.

Arrive in Durban in time to rejoin the Caronia for dinner.
