Cape Town

On the third day of the ship's stay in Cape Town, leave by special train at mid-day from the dock alongside the Caronia.

Tuesday, 14 February 1956

Kimberley

Full day in the great “Diamond City”.

Morning drive to the De Beers Mine and the “Big Hole”.

Afternoon visit to the Diamond Institute to see its display of gems.

Leave by train at sundown.

Wednesday, 15 February 1956

Johannesburg

Arrive after breakfast in South Africa's largest city, a modern “El Dorado”.

Morning drive visiting the business and residential sections and main points of interest.

Leave by early afternoon plane, arriving Livingstone Airport in about 2½ hours.

Overnight at Victoria Falls Hotel.

Victoria Falls

Morning visit to the Rain Forest and other vantage points along the splendid cataract.

Afternoon flight to Pretoria; night at Culembourg Hotel.

Friday, 17 February 1956

Pretoria

This beautiful city of flowers is the administrative capital of the Transvaal and of South Africa.

Morning visit to the Union Buildings, Paul Kruger's House and the Voortrekkers' Monument.

Afternoon drive to the Cullinan Diamond Mine.

Leave by special train in early evening.

Saturday, 18 February 1956

Kruger Park

A full day in this great reserve.

Leaving the train at Nelspruit in the early morning, motor through the Park to view wild game.

Luncheon is served at a rest camp in the Park.

Rejoin the train at Nelspruit and leave in early evening.

Sunday, 19 February 1956

Durban

A leisurely day aboard the comfortable special train, passing through the native areas of Natal, with stops at interesting stations.

Arrive Durban after dinner and rejoin the Caronia.

Full day for visits to the Main Falls, Rainbow Falls, Devil's Cataract, the Palm Grove and Rain Forest, viewing this masterpiece of Nature from many vantage points.

Wednesday, 15 February 1956

Bulawayo

Transfer to Livingstone Airport in early morning and fly by special plane to Bulawayo (1¼ hours).

Drive about the city and out to Matopos Hills to see Cecil Rhodes' Grave at “World's View”.

Luncheon in Bulawayo, then leave in mid-afternoon for 2-hour flight to Johannesburg.

Overnight at leading hotels.

Johannesburg

Full day in South Africa's modern “El Dorado”, visiting principal places of interest.

After dinner, leave by train for Kruger Park.

Fri / Sat, 17/18 February 1956

Kruger Park

Arrive Nelspruit early in the morning and continue by automobile for two days in this great wild life sanctuary, with accommodation at Pretorius Kop Rest Camp, and drives by automobile to see many varieties of animals and birds.

On Saturday evening leave Nelspruit by train for Pretoria.

Sunday, 19 February 1956

Pretoria

Arrive in time for breakfast.

Morning drive visiting the principal places of interest in South Africa's capital — the Government Buildings and gardens, and the Voortrekkers' Monument.

In mid-afternoon motor to the airport for 1½hour flight to Durban, rejoining the Caronia in time for dinner.

Johannesburg

Motor in the morning to Johannesburg for sightseeing;
return to Pretoria in late afternoon.

To Kruger Park

Drive eastward from Pretoria after breakfast, through the Transvaal to the citrus centre of Nelspruit.

Luncheon here, then enter Kruger Pork and motor through the game areas.

Overnight in Kruger Park.

Friday, 17 February 1956

Kruger Park

A full day of motoring, viewing many varieties of animals and birds in the world's largest wild game reserve, including the Hippo Pools.

Overnight in Kruger Park.

Saturday, 18 February 1956

Swaziland

A scenic drive over the Swazi Mountains, with stops at the gold rush town of Barberton and a newly-opened asbestos mine.

Continue to Mbabane, capital of Swaziland.

Overnight at the Swazi Inn.

Sunday, 19 February 1956

Hluhluwe

Morning drive through the Swazi country, passing the kraal of the Queen Mother.

Continue into Zululand and the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, with an evening drive to see wild game.

Overnight at Hluhluwe Rest Camp.

Monday, 20 February 1956

Zululand - Durban

Early morning drive in Hluhluwe, home of the famous white rhino.

Proceed through the heart of Zululand; luncheon at Eshowe.

Afternoon drive through sugar cane country to Durban, rejoining the Caronia at about 5pm.
