Tour #E5 - Durban City & Beaches

The two shore trips shown below will be operated on convenient days during the visit of the Caronia at Durban, to accommodate passengers returning from Optional Tours and others.

Thu. 16 Feb, in the Afternoon or Mon. 20 Feb. in the Morning.
This three-hour automobile drive includes many places of interest in and around South Africa's resort city of Durban, noted for its fine beaches along the Indian Ocean.

Drive through the business sections and residential districts, along the Esplanade, past Howard College and through the suburb of Berea.

Continue to the native suburbs and to Burman Drive with its famous monkeys.

Return to the city to see the Indian Market and the colourful Native Market.

Johannesburg

Leave Durban by plane in the early morning, reaching Johannesburg in two hours.

Automobile drive about South Africa's modern “El Dorado”, seeing principal points of interest.

Leave by train after dinner.

Sat. 18 & Sun. 19 February 1956

Kruger Park

Arrive Nelspruit in the morning and continue by automobile to Kruger National Park, the world's largest wild game reserve.

Motor through the Park on both days to view the wild animals and birds, including the Hippo Pools and Skukuza district.

Overnight at a comfortable rest camp inside the Park.

Late Sunday afternoon return to Nelspruit and leave by train for Pretoria.

Monday, 20 February 1956

Pretoria

Arriving Pretoria in the morning, tour this gracious capital city of flowers by automobile, seeing the Voortrekkers' Monument, Paul Kruger's House and the Union Buildings.

After luncheon drive to the airport and return to Durban by 1¼-hour flight, rejoining the Caronia in time for sailing.

Hluhluwe

Leave Durban in the morning and motor up the Indian Ocean coast through Natal's sugar cane region. Enter Hluhluwe Game Reserve in the early afternoon. Evening drive to see wild game, with overnight accommodations at Hluhluwe Rest Camp.

Sunday, 19 February 1956

Zululand

Early morning drive in Hluhluwe Reserve, home of the rare white rhino. After luncheon proceed into the heart of Zululand, motoring through the Zulu hills and past the site of Chaka's kraal. Night at Royal Hotel in Eshowe, capital of Zululand.

Monday, 20 February 1956

Durban

Drive from Eshowe to Durban, rejoining the Caronia in time for luncheon.

Tour #O40 - Drummond & Zulu Dance Festival

Afternoon, by Automobile

This 4-hour afternoon drive by automobile visits the village of Drummond, twenty miles inland in the Valley of the Thousand Hills, to witness a special presentation of Zulu dances.

These will be performed by a large troupe of men and women dancers in a natural setting before their beehive-shaped kraals near the Valley View Inn.

Return to the quayside in Durban in the late afternoon.
