The Island of Capri

Sunday, 23 October Itinerary

Early in the morning you leave Naples on the steamer that maintains ferry service between Capri and the mainland.

You will find that most of the people on the steamer, Italians who have seen the island a thousand times, will still look expectantly over the horizon for the first glimpse of Capri.

Capri, once the playground of the Roman Emperors of antiquity is now the vacation land of millionnaires.

Upon arrival at the island, weather permitting, you will first visit the “Blue Grotto”, a cave reached only from the sea. It derives its name from the soft luminous blue colour caused by refraction of the sunlight through the water.

You will then return to the Marina Grande and continue on up to Capri, a village which is very picturesque with its great number of small shops where many beautiful native products can be bought.

After luncheon at one of the restaurants of the island, you will ride by automobile to Anacapri, the other small village on the island, to see the Villa of San Michele where Axel Munthe wrote his book - “The Story of San Michele”. The villa is now a museum in miniature, filled with collectors items found by Dr. Munthe during his stay on the island.

After this very interesting visit, you return to Capri, and then down to Marina Grande to take the steamer back to the CARONIA in time for dinner.

Naples & Rome

This two-day tour to Rome will give you an opportunity to see the record of three thousand years of history of which “The Eternal City” is so justly proud. The three eras — the ancient, the Papal, and the modern — have left their imprint on the city.

Two half-day sightseeing tours have been arranged to provide the maximum amount of time to see this historical city. You will see modern and ancient Rome…

• the Vatican City,
• the Sistine Chapel,
• the Ruins of the Roman Forum,
• the Colosseum and innumerable other outstanding sights

In order to provide the maximum amount of time for sightseeing and shopping in Rome, arrangements have been made for luncheon on the first day and dinner on the second to be served on the train.

Return to Naples and the CARONIA in the evening of the second day.
