Damascus, the Capital of Syria, believed to be the oldest settlement or city in the world, is located at the foot of the Anti-Lebanon Mountains, 50 miles from Beirut. The city is filled with early relics of the Judaic and Christian eras.
Here is the bazaar-lined “Street called Straight” where Ananias searched for Paul the Apostle, afraid and hiding, after his blinding vision.
As in ancient times, the bazaars are still filled with rich coloured brocades, rugs, and other handiwork: coppersmiths and shoemakers, fruit vendors and woodworkers all fill the air with their hawking voices to sell their products.
Visits to Ananias’ House, Saladin's Tomb, the Omayad and El-Tekieh Mosques, St. Paul's window, and a wood, brass and brocade factory, are among the highlights of this tour.
