Note:
Having arrived nearly 24 hours later than booked due to steering gear problems, the delay would have badly impacted this shore tour. Until I can obtain sight of a voyage log, it's impossible to tell how long the delay continued to have an impact.

Upon arrival at Alexandria, October 7, proceed by special train to Cairo.

The nights of the 7th and 8th will be spent in Cairo with accommodations provided at the Mena House where a comprehensive program of sightseeing includes…

  • a drive to Old Cairo, with visits to the Coptic Church associated with the flight of Joseph and Mary into Egypt
  • the Nilometer (instrument for measuring the height of the water of the Nile)
  • the Mosque of Amr
  • the world-famous Egyptian Museum with its wealth of treasures from tomb and monument
  • the Citadel of Saladin
  • the Mosques of Mohammed Ali and Sultan Hassan
  • El Rifai Mosque and the Mousky or native bazaars

Also a drive out to Gizeh to see the Great Cheops Pyramid and Sphinx. Other places visited are the Mosque of Kaid Bey, Barkouk and the tomb of Khedive Tewfik.

A drive to Matarieh to visit the Virgin's tree, the Church of the Holy Family and the Obelisk, returns via Heliopolis (New Cairo).

Sun. 09 / Mon. 10 October Itinerary

Tour #15: Cairo, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Tiberius & Haifa

On the morning of October 9, proceed by plane to Old Jerusalem in Jordan. The nights of the 9th and 10th will be spent in Jerusalem and there will be an extensive program of sightseeing which will include a visit to the Old City, where we will see…

  • the Holy Sepulchre
  • Ecce Homo
  • Via Dolorosa (Way of the Cross)
  • Mt. Calvary
  • Solomon's Temple, and Mosque of Omar

A drive will be made to the Mount of Olives, the Place of the Ascension, the Church of Pater Noster, the House of Mary and Martha, Lazarus’ Tomb, and the Garden of Gethsemane.

There will also be a drive to Bethlehem, passing by the Shepherd's Fields, Fields of Boaz, a visit to the Basilica of Nativity, Grotto of St. Jerome, Crusaders’ Cloister, and the Milk Grotto.

Tuesday, 11 October Itinerary

Tour #15: Cairo, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Tiberius & Haifa

On the morning of October 11, we will proceed through the Mandelbaum Gate to Jerusalem in Israel, where sightseeing will include Mt. Zion, David's Tomb and the Church of Dormition. From here, the party proceeds to Talpioth where, if the day is clear, the Dead Sea (1,300 feet below sea level) may be seen.

We will also drive out to Ein Karem, birthplace of John the Baptist. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Wednesday, 12 October Itinerary

Tour #15: Cairo, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Tiberius & Haifa

On the morning of October 12, we will drive via the coastal road to Hadera, Wadi Ara, and up the Valley of Jezreel. Skirting Mt. Tabor, we pass Yavniel, and along the shore of the Sea of Galilee to Tiberias for luncheon.

In the afternoon, continue to Capernaum to visit the ruins of the 2nd century church. Continue to Kfar Kana, site of the Miracle of the Wine, and then to Nazareth. Visit the Church of Joseph the Carpenter, and Mary's Well, and continue to Haifa in the late afternoon.
