Madeira is as famous for its flowers as it is for its wine and lace. Here where eternal spring stirs the rich, deep-red volcanic earth, there is a perennial garden paradise. Bursts of bougainvillea appear everywhere through the green foliage; poinsettias reach the height of trees; the cup-of-gold vine showers great golden trumpets on beds of fern.
Camellias, roses, orchids, frangipani, gardenias all abound — for Madeira is a veritable greenhouse exposed to the heavens. This drive affords a complete view of the natural beauty of the island, and proceeds through the pastel-coloured villages dotting the coast.
Santa Cruz, Machico, Portela, São Roque do Fayal, and the inland town of Ribeiro Frio — places whose easy ways and quiet charm have remained undisturbed by the passing of centuries. The scenic drive also includes the same programme as Tour 1, with luncheon at the Chalet Restaurant atop Terreiro da Lucta.

Itinerary
8:00am
The CARONIA is scheduled to arrive at Funchal.
9:00am
The tour is recommended to those who have visited Madeira on previous cruises. Leave the landing place by automobile, and after a visit to one of the leading wineries motor along the east coast to Santa Cruz and Machico, then across the mountains to Portela for a view of the north coast.
Continue to São Roque do Fayal and inland to Ribeiro Frio and arrive at Terreiro da Lucta for a late luncheon at the Chalet Restaurant. After luncheon, descend the mountain by basket sled and return to Funchal. This fine scenic trip includes the same sightseeing as Tour 1, also an extensive island drive.
