These are the display options…
§ caronia § double § large §

If you don't want to change the display but want to go back to the page you were at previously, you can either click the [Back] button of your browser, or re-select your present setting of » caronia «

The settings are browser independent; JavaScript does not need to be enabled or disabled and no change is made to your browser settings.

The Display Settings Described
Introduction:

With the pace of technology, the vast array of screen sizes and the improvements in display quality, it's difficult to recommend any fixed setting. The default “Caronia” setting is deliberately fixed-width, while the others have some flexibility.

  • Caronia” will set the display as the Webmaster intended. This is best viewed with your browser View | Text Size set to Medium. It's also suitable for small portable devices, viewed in landscape only. This allows the Timeline to occupy the smallest area on a large screen without losing context
  • Double” is intended for 720p displays or above. Text sizing is set at 140%
  • Large” is intended for 1080p displays or above. Text sizing is set at 200%
  • It's easy to set the intended minimum width by adjusting your browser tab width down to 1,100 pixels for the “double” or 1,400 pixels for the “large”. Do this until “Top” and “Nav” buttons appear on the left of the window. Slowly widen once more until they disappear
  • High-contrast options are selectable within modern browsers; nothing here will over-ride chosen settings
NavBar
The Impacts
  • Cookies
This feature works in your browser by setting and reading cookies. No tracking or personal information is gathered by me with the use of the display setting cookies
    • Unless and until you make a display change choice, no cookies are set in your browser by the Timeline
    • If you don't wish for any cookies to be set by the Timeline, just go back to the… Previous Page or use your browser's [< Back] button now
    • Resetting your display choice back to “caronia” will delete the two browser cookies
  • An Unavoidable Paradox:
Bearing in mind that there are some 10,000 images on the Timeline, in some cases the quality may be poor. Paradoxically in the larger display options, if an “enlargement” is offered, this may well produce a better quality image although it may not be any larger
  • Note:
If, when you make a display change selection, you lose the Timeline and get text indicating a bunch of errors instead, this will be your Anti Virus or Firewall software over-riding your browser cookie settings. You will need to allow that software to set cookies for the resizing options to work
  • Please be aware that as soon as you select a display change, you will be taken back to the page that you came here from, without further prompting!
  • A selected display option can be changed at any time
  • Your chosen display option remains in force throughout the Timeline until you change it. It will be remembered for each visit, unless you delete your browser cookie
  • If you go back to a previously viewed page and it resizes to an old setting, you will need to use your browser [Refresh] button to reload that page in the new size
  • Display of the opening page, crossword and quiz pages will not be affected by the double or large display settings. Site search results pages have their own text resizing button
    • In the 2 larger settings, pages displayed in a pop-up window can be resized horizontally
    • When you hover on the pop-up content, a ⇔ symbol will appear as a reminder
  • The Timeline is still readable in context if you select a “text only” option through your browser settings. However, it's probable that some interactive elements, like the movie quiz reveals, will not work as intended

Repeat of the display options…
§ caronia § double § large §
